Its founder—a musician, songwriter, and visual artist—never planned to build a fragrance empire. “I thought it would be a tiny boutique experiment,” he recalls from a compact, sunlit studio. “I made the scents for myself and my friends. I didn’t even post on social media when I opened the Shopify store. But suddenly, orders started pouring in. I was hand-packing boxes at midnight, and by week two, I realized I needed help.”

The story reads like a distinctly New York immigrant dream—equal parts grit, vision, and reinvention. Born in Siberia, the creator moved to the United States at 19, chasing freedom and artistic possibility. Music became the first language in this new world. Years of songwriting and genre-blending performance shaped an artistic voice long before the first fragrance blend ever existed.

“Music taught me how to build moods,” he says. “A song is a scent you hear. A fragrance is a song you smell.”

The Birth of HAUS OF SMELL

The idea emerged from a desire to create a sensory universe that matched a lifelong practice of storytelling through sound. Botanicals became a medium—another instrument. “I didn’t want perfume that smelled like everything else,” he explains. “I wanted something alive, raw, and natural.”

After months of experimenting and sourcing sustainable raw materials, the Shopify store quietly went live in 2025. No ads. No influencers. No campaigns. And yet, within days, the first collection of home and body aromas—crafted with no alcohol, no synthetics, and no fillers—sold out. Friends jumped in to help fulfill orders as momentum grew entirely through word-of-mouth.
